With the scale of pressure swing adsorption oxygen production increasing year by year, its reliability improving year by year and the power consumption for oxygen production gradually decreasing, and at the same time, the pressure swing adsorption oxygen production technology has the advantages of flexible operation, simple load regulation, low power consumption, short construction period of the equipment and high safety, for industries that need to flexibly use enriched oxygen, the pressure swing adsorption oxygen production technology undoubtedly can become an alternative process for deep cryogenic oxygen production. Its application scope is also expanding year by year. In recent years, the pressure swing adsorption oxygen production process has been widely applied in industries such as steel, non-ferrous metallurgy, chemical engineering, furnaces and kilns, and environmental protection.

With the development of oxygen enrichment technology in blast furnaces, blast furnaces have become one of the main oxygen sources for steel enterprises. When the blast furnace oxygen-enriched technology was first applied, the blast furnace could serve as an oxygen supply regulator. When the oxygen production was high, the blast furnace oxygen-enriched rate was high; when the oxygen production was insufficient, the blast furnace oxygen-enriched rate was low. As steel enterprises have a clearer understanding of the significance of blast furnace oxygen enrichment technology in the ironmaking process, the stability of blast furnace oxygen enrichment rate has become an important operational parameter for low-cost and efficient ironmaking. Due to the numerous oxygen-consuming processes in steel enterprises, the oxygen load fluctuates every week or even every day. The cryogenic oxygen production technology has poor load regulation and long start-up and shutdown times. When the oxygen consumption is low, the excess oxygen needs to be liquefied and stored for future use or sold as a product. Sometimes, there may even be a phenomenon of oxygen venting. Given the characteristics of low oxygen pressure and low purity requirements for oxygen in blast furnaces, many steel enterprises can build pressure swing adsorption oxygen generation devices near blast furnaces to directly supply them. At the same time, they can serve as regulators for oxygen supply in steel enterprises. For instance, when there is an excess or insufficient amount of oxygen produced by the enterprise’s cryogenic air separation, the pressure swing adsorption oxygen generation devices can be started and stopped at any time to control the increase or decrease in output and provide oxygen for the blast furnaces. At present, after many steel enterprises adopt pressure swing adsorption oxygen production technology to supply oxygen in blast furnaces, the cost of oxygen usage has been significantly reduced. It has become a consensus in most steel enterprises that blast furnaces use pressure swing adsorption for oxygen production as an oxygen-enriched source.
